To enrich our students' artistic experiences and deepen their understanding of Chinese culture, our school recently had the great honour of hosting the "Music for the Millions" Chinese Orchestra from the Music Office. They presented a unique and engaging Chinese music concert for our P. 4 toP. 6 students.
This activity aimed to provide students with close-range exposure to the essence of Chinese music. During the concert, instructors and musicians vividly introduced the four major categories of Chinese instruments—wind, percussion, plucked-string, and bowed-string—such as the Dizi , Suona, Pipa and Erhu . They explained the instruments' structures, performance techniques, and unique timbres.
This concert was more than just an auditory feast; it was a profound cultural immersion lesson. By understanding these instruments and melodies that carry a thousand years of history, students strengthened their sense of identity and pride in the excellent traditional Chinese culture, profoundly appreciating its depth and breadth. This experience effectively enhanced their sense of national identity. Looking ahead, our school will continue to organize diverse cultural activities to nurture our students' character and foster their development into a new generation with cultural literacy.
