Over two days (July 9–10), our school held a “Cantonese Opera Experience Workshop” on campus, allowing students to immerse themselves in the charm of traditional Chinese opera and gain a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture. The instructor began by vividly explaining the characteristics of the four major role types – sheng (male), dan (female), jing (painted-face), and chou (clown) – from the mighty warrior roles to the graceful young ladies, captivating the students throughout. Next, the instructor taught hand gestures and stage-walking techniques, with students imitating on the spot. Laughter filled the air yet students appreciated the rigorous discipline required for stage presence.
